IFLA 60th World Congress passed through Istanbul…

The 60th World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA) was held in Istanbul from September 4-6, 2024, with the theme "Code Red for Earth." The congress, opened by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, witnessed numerous professional presentations.

The Congress, in its overarching theme, called on humanity to take urgent action to prevent the impacts of the climate crisis. Policymakers, professionals, scientists, and individuals were invited to contribute to the discourse and chart a course for the world's future.

The result... Attendance at the congress was low among landscape architects and students due to economic reasons. Setting aside the reasons for the low attendance for now, the biggest gain was the recognition that the climate crisis and environmental issues are key issues directly affecting landscape architecture.

We must see this as a great advantage, because it's clear that these issues are the most important distinction between the discipline of landscape architecture and other professions.

Because it seems that this field of knowledge or discipline can strengthen and grow economically, socially and culturally as it establishes itself by following this path in the professional field.
